Effective responses to protecting and improving the safety of children and young people is not only a whole-of-government response but also a whole-of-community response. I wish to add my voice of approval to this exciting new initiative in child safety. I believe it will benefit both young people and families throughout Australia.
With 30 years experience in maternal and child health, I understand the importance of prevention and being ready in the face of an emergency. A number of lifesaving measures comes embedded within the Safekids card technology, children with known medical risks such as allergies, diabetes, asthma or epilepsy, can be easily identified to primary health care providers. This information is easily accessible to a paramedic, doctor, family member or carer in an urgent situation.
No issue is more important than the safety of our children. It is my personal and professional view that this system will be of immense benefit to the people of Australia.
