Lifeprint
D.N.A. - Deoxyribonucleic Acid– the building blocks of life.
This is a chemical structure that forms chromosomes. A piece of a chromosome that dictates a particular trait (blond hair, blue eyes etc) is called a gene. Structurally, DNA is a double helix: two strands of genetic material spiraled around each other. Each strand contains a sequence of bases (also called nucleotides). A base is one of four chemicals (adenine, guanine, cytosine and thymine).
Even more than a fingerprint, each person's "DNA fingerprints every one of your cells codes for all of the thousands of proteins you need" is unique. While old-fashioned fingerprints record the wavy, whorled ridges on fingertips, DNA fingerprints record the chemistry of small sections of DNA in chromosomes.
The notion of using DNA fingerprints as a sort of genetic bar code to identify individuals is now a reality. Technology advances allow us to take a 'swab' from the inside of someone's mouth. This test can even be done in the privacy of your own home. The swab is analysed by specialists and from this basic sample a DNA fingerprint can be provided, and this information is stored within a secure server, with access instructions contained on your Safe Family Card. A 'hard copy' report of the DNA is also sent and we recommend that you keep this with other important family documents should you need to access it.
Why should I have my DNA?
If you are travelling overseas, holidaying away from home, involved in an accident or went missing, a DNA Lifeprint is the ultimate identification. The trauma of collecting DNA should authorities require it, is huge for friends and family. The process of collection is taking samples from toothbrushes, hats and clothes, for example, and then to 99.99% define the DNA is a lengthly process, sometimes taking weeks, causing unneccessary time delays when loved ones are already under stress. Having a DNA report already available to authorities is paramount in a missing persons emergency, DNA can place a person at a scene thus improving the chances of locating a missing person quickly.
DNA Lifeprint - Your personal DNA report is able to be read by a Forensic Testing Authority worldwide. We supply your report embedded within your card of choice, one (1) extra card for safe keeping, phone access to your report stored on a secure server, a 'hard copy' for you to place with your family's important documents.
